          [edit] Ingredients

          • 1 1/3 cups + 2 tablespoons flour, divided
          • 8 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons sugar, divided
          • 1/4 teaspoon salt
          • 1/2 cup cold butter, broken up
          • 4 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon cold water
          • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
          • 3 cups tart apples, peeled and chopped
          • 6 tablespoons sugar
          • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
          • 4 tablespoons caramel ice-cream topping, warm

          [edit] Directions

          1. Toss together 1 1/3 cups flour, 2 tablespoons sugar and the salt in a mixing bowl.
          2. Cut the butter into the mixture with a pastry blender until crumbly.
          3. Gradually add the cold water and vanilla while tossing with a fork.
          4. Continuing tossing after all the water and vanilla has been added, until a soft dough forms.
          5. Form the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
          6. Set the oven temperature to 400° and allow it to preheat.
          7. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
          8. Lightly flour a flat surface and roll the chilled dough into a circle.
          9. Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet.
          10. Place the apples, 6 tablespoons sugar, and the remaining flour in a mixing bowl.
          11. Stir until the apples are completely covered with the flour and sugar.
          12. Spread the apple mixture into the middle the dough, leaving a 2‑inch edge.
          13. Fold the edges of the dough up over the filling, leaving the center uncovered.
          14. Toss the remaining sugar and cinnamon together, and sprinkle over the uncovered filling.
          15. Bake 25 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and crust is golden brown.
          16. Slide the pie onto a wire rack to cool.
          17. Drizzle with the caramel topping before serving.
