This recipe is important to my family because my grandma that died use to make it for us each time we went to Mexico. To keep the tradition, my mom makes it for us now at almost every Christmas.

We always used to call my grandma two days before we went to Mexico and asked her to make it for us. My mom serves arroz con leche on special occasions like Christmas. I rememember that all of my family used to sit down on the couch and eat arroz con leche while we opened our presents.

          [edit] Ingredients

          • 1 cup of uncooked rice
          • 1 cup of sugar
          • 1 cinnamon stick
          • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
          • 1 quart milk
          • 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

          [edit] Directions

          1. Put all of ingredients into a saucepan. Mix well.
          2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook until rice is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
          3. Remove cinnamon stick.
